The Legend of Tangkuban Perahu

Once upon a time, in West java, there lived a wis king who had a beautiful. daughter. Her name was Dayang Sumbi. She liked weaving very much. One day, she was weaving a cloth. Suddenly, she just shouted outloud. "Anybody there? Bring me ny tool. I will give you special present. If you are female, i will consider you as my sister. If you are male, i will marry you"

Suddenly a male dog named Tumang came. He brought her falling tool. Dayang Sumbi was very surprised. She regretted her words but she cloud not deny it. (Song nada balonku : if you really make promise, you really have to keep it, if you really do not keep it, so you really will sin)

Then they got married and left the kingdom. They lived in a small village. Several months later they had a son. His name was Sangkuriang. He was a handsome and healthy boy. Sangkuriang liked hunting very much and Tumang always with him.

One day, Dayang Sumbi asked Sangkuriang to go hunting because she wanted to eat deer heart. After hunting all day, Sangkuriang began desperate and worried because he hunted no deer. Then he tought to shot his own dog. Then he took the dog heart and carried home.

Soon Dayang Sumbi found out that is was not deer heart but Tumang's, his own dog. So, Dayang Sumbi was very angry and hit Sangkuriang's head. In that incident, Sangkuriang got wounded and scar then sast away from their home.

Many years passed, Sangkuriang became a strong young man. One day he arrived at his own village but he did not realize it. There he met Dayang Sumbi. At the time Dayang Sumbi was given a eternal beauty by god, so she stayed young forever. Both of them did not know each other. So they fell in love and then they decided ot marry.

Soon Dayang Sumbi recognized a scar on Sangkuriang's head, she was very shocked. She knew that Sangkuriang was his son. It was impossible for them to marry. She told him but he did not belive her. Sangkuriang wished that they married soon. So Dayang Sumbi gave him a very difficult condition. Sangkuriang had to makr a lake and a boat in one night for celebrating their wedding.

With the help of genies and spirits, he built a lake. With a dawn just moment away and the boat was almost complete. Dayang Sumbi had to stop it. Then, she lit up the eastern horizon with flashes of light. It made the cock crowed for a new day.

"Sangkuriang, you can't finish my condition. It's mean that you can't marry me", said Dayang Sumbi. " You cheated! You maked the light, so that my troops go. Because of that, i could not fulfill your condition." Shouted Sangkuriang.

Sangkuriang failed to marry Dayang Sumbi, so he was very angry. The boat was kicked by him became the mountain of Tangkuban Perahu Bandung.

Moral value of the story : 

1. We must keep our p promise

2. We must be honest

3. We must not cheat
